
David Beres Wins First MAST Title
Dave Beres wins his first MAST title to win $444. He defeated Mike Steil in the title match, who received $264 for second place.
The tournament drew 38 bowlers and all bowlers who competed will receive 25 bonus points. The cut to the top eight and match play was 921 for four games. Dave Beres led qualifying with 1018 and will receive another 25 bonus points. Three honor scores were bowled: a 300 by Mike Hoffman, 290 by Jeff Richgels, and a 290 by Robert Murray.

Dan Seppa Wins Title #6
In a veteran final, Dan Seppa defeated Herb Kimpel, 245 to 204, to win his 6th MAST title. Seppa received $439 for the win and Kimpel received $233 as runner up.
The tournament was held on a USBC Blue pattern and drew 46 bowlers. All bowlers will receive 25 bonus points for competing on the Blue pattern. A score of 954 over 4 games was required to advance as one of the top 12 to match play. Chris Pounders led qualifying at 1037 and will receive another 25 bonus points.

Michael Steil Wins His First MAST Title
Mike Steil defeats 16-time MAST champion Herb Kimpel to win his first MAST title. Steil bowled a 279 in the title match to secure the win and $512. Kimpel received $282 for second.
The tournament drew 56 bowlers who competed on the 2011 USBC Open Championship shot. Casey Gibney led qualifying with 955 to earn an extra 25 bonus points. A score of 840 or better was required to advance to match play and all who competed will receive an extra 25 bonus points for the challenge condition.

Shannon Dins Wins His First MAST Title
Shannon Dins beats veteran Dan Seppa, 263 to 222, to win his first MAST title and be king of dream lanes for the day. Before meeting Seppa, Dins beat out Dream Lanes regulars, Gregg William and Jim Fosdick, followed by Herb Kimpel in the semi-finals. Dins received $496 for the win and Seppa earned $273 for second place.
Kyle Sullivan dominated the field of 57 bowlers scoring 1052 for four games of qualifying. He began the day with a 290 followed by 278 and 269 to bowl an honor score of 837. He will receive 25 bonus points for leading qualifying. Randy Canales bowled the other honor score of the day, a 300 in his third game, which lead him to a score of 961 and two pins shy of qualifying to match play.

Defending Champs Bober/Loose win again at Lake Ripley
Teammates Paul Bober and Andy Loose take home the Lake Ripley MAST title for the second year in a row. They defeated Dustin Meisel and Bob Richardson in the title match 416 to 370. First place took home $826 while Meisel and Richardson earned $436 for second place.
Bober and Loose qualified 8th knocking the qualifying leaders Dave Beres and Chad Maas out of match play during the first round. Beres/Maas totaled 1715 over 8 games of qualifying with Maas bowling a 923 to earn 25 bonus points as the individual leader. They earned $246 from the prize fund and dominated second shift and double brackets to take home over an additional $500.

Congratulations to Nathan Michalowski on his First MAST Title
Nathan Michalowski dominated match play with scores of 299, 265, 257, and 245 to take home $459 and his first MAST title. Michalowski's 299 and 821 were the only honor scores of the day and helped secure him another $90 for betting on himself to win. Paul Bober also had a nice run in match play with games of 238, 239, 248, and 194 to end in second place and earn $252.
The tournament at Village Lanes drew 53 bowlers. A score of 895 over 4 games was required to advance to match play and Rick Thomas led qualifying with 1044 to earn 25 bonus points.

Congratulations to Bill Guszczo on his First MAST Title
Bill Guszczo takes the Spartan Bowl MAST title over Chad Kloss, 279 to 208, to win $448. Kloss received $238 for second place. Guszczo's 279 included an 11 in a row, earning him the second honor score of the day. The first honor score was a 299 bowled by Ben Kojo during the second game of qualifying.
Forty-eight bowlers competed for the top 12 spots to match play and the top 4 received a bye in the first round. Scores were high during qualifying with the cut jumping 46 pins the last game to +144 to advance out of qualifying.

Maas Wins 2nd MAST Title
Chad Maas takes home the first title of the 24rd season of the Madison Area Scratch Tour. Badger bowl hosted the tournament on a USBC Blue pattern which drew 61 bowlers. Maas defeated Bryan Bannach in the final match to receive $592 while Bannach earned $364. Maas also got into the Bet to Win which improved his winnings by an additional $55.
All bowlers will receive 25 bonus points for competing on the challenge condition. A low qualifying score of only 774 for 4 games was necessary to advance to match play and Chad Maas led the field with 877 for an additional 25 bonus points.

Richgels Captures Year End Championship
Congratulations to Jeff Richgels, this year's MAST year end tournament champion. Richgels received $1000 and an eagle trophy for his win. The year-end tournament was sponsored by Badger Pro Shop and Dream Lanes. Dream Lanes added $232 to the prize fund by charging a reduced lineage for the tournament. Jim Wipperfurth of Badger Pro Shop continues to be a great supporter of the MAST and donated $1000. He also sponsored the Sportsmanship award again this year which was won by Jay Heinzelman for a second time in a row. Heinzelman received a $100 Visa gift card.

Seppa, Rhino Win 2nd Doubles Championship
Congratulations to Dan Seppa and Greg Stauffacher for winning the last regular session tournament. This is their second doubles title at Bowling Green. The duo defeated Kevin Punzel and Todd Kjell, 412 to 388, in the final match to receive $598. The runners up received $346. The doubles tournament drew 40 bowlers and was played out on a challenging blue condition. The cut for 8 games of qualifying per team was -9.

Gibbon's Win of the Millennium
Chris Gibbons and Jeff Prein battled it out in the final match with Gibbons coming away with the championship title. This is Gibbon's 5th MAST title and first title won since 1993. Gibbons bowled 246 over Prein's 216 to earn $432 while Prein received $238.
The final singles tournament for 2011 was contested on the USBC Blue pattern. The cut to make the top 16 was +46. All bowlers will receive 25 extra points for bowling on the challenge condition.

Heilman Wins 1st MAST Title
After starting the day off with a 300, Nick Heilman went on to win his first MAST title defeating Duane Kilts in the final game of match play. Heilman received $420 for the win while Kilts received $223 for second place.
Wildcat Lanes chose the Kegel Beaten Path pattern for the tournament, which drew 44 bowlers. It proved to be a challenging shot, taking a score of only 792 over four games of qualifying to make it to the top 12 to compete in match play.

Hoffman and Pounders Win Sport Doubles
Congratulations to Chris Pounders and Brian Hoffman on winning the 2011 Middleton Sport Bowl Doubles MAST title. This is Pounders and Hoffman's 10th and 6th MAST titles, respectively, the first as a doubles team. The pair led the final match against Tony Oliva and Greg Thomas and still had enough to win even after both partners left splits and opened in the 10th frame. Pounders/Hoffman received $1012 for the win while Oliva/Thomas earned $536.

Heinzelman wins 7th MAST Title
In an exciting finale, Jay Heinzelman struck out in the 9 and 10th frames to defeat Kevin Punzel 192 to 186. After leading most of the match, Punzel only needed to mark in the 10th for the win. Disappointingly, he left the 4-7-10 split to finish in second place and receive $273. Heinzelman received $496 for the win and an additional $130 for betting on himself to win. The tournament drew 56 bowlers on the 2010 USBC Championship pattern.

Oliva Finally Conquers Finals Bracket
Tony Oliva wins his first MAST title defeating Andy Loose 279 to 199 in the final match. Oliva received $604 for first place and Loose received $334 as the runner up. The tournament drew 69 bowlers despite the nasty winter weather.
Brian Hoffman led the day averaging 253 over 4 games of qualifying, which nets him 25 extra bonus points. His series contained an 11 in a row 290 game, the one honor score of the day.

Fritton's Fifth Championship at Leisure Lanes
Eric Fritton wins his 5th Mast title. He defeated Dan Goepfert 254 to 232 in the final match to take home $480. Goepfert earned $264 for 2nd place. Fritton also placed a $5 bet on himself to win the tournament which earned him an additional $175.
The cut to qualifying was 899 over 4 games, the same score as last year, although a very different lane condition. Rick Thomas led qualifying with 1018, bowling an 803 (268, 256, 279) for his first 3 games.

Paul Bloemer Wins Fourth At Bowl-A-Vard
Paul Bloemer wins his 4th MAST title at Bowl-A-Vard Lanes. He defeated Dave Shaw in the title match to earn $520, while Shaw received $286 as runner up.
The tournament was bowled on a competitive USBC white shot. The cut to match play was +63 over four games and no honor scores were bowled.
A tie for 16th place was decided with a 9th and 10th frame roll off. Chris Gibbons grabbed the 16th spot and Herb Kimpel received $57 for 17th place.

Bober, Loose Top 38 Team Field
Lake Ripley Lanes once again challenged MAST bowlers with an exceptionally tough lane condition. After a long day of competition, Andy Loose and Paul Bober beat Gregg Williams and Dan Swenson for the MAST title. Loose/Bober received a total of $1012 for their win and Williams/Swenson split $538 for second place. This was Loose/Bober's second consecutive MAST doubles title. Their first doubles title was won last March at Bowling Green, also on a very challenging lane condition.

Janz Gets Third MAST Title
Tim Janz defeated Kevin Thompson in the title match to win his 3rd MAST title. Janz received $562 for his accomplishment while Thompson received $309 for second place.
The tournament was contested on the USBC white pattern and drew 67 bowlers. The cut to the top 16 and match play was +100. Brian Angileri led qualifying with an impressive score of 1013, averaging 253 for 4 games and earning himself 25 extra bonus points. Angileri also bowled the only honor scores for the day. He had an 802 series for his first 3 games, which included a 300 his second game.

Hoffman Earns Eighth Title
Mike Hoffman led a field of 67 bowlers to pull off his 8th MAST title. Mike started the day off strong with a 237 followed by games of 269, 239, and 237 to be the high qualifier with a series of 982 to earn 25 bonus points. He then went on to defeat Aaron Wells, Jeff Prein, Eric Fritton, and Jermey Wolfe for the championship title. Hoffman received $624 for first place while Wolfe received $343 for second place.

Thomas Wins Season Opener
Badger Bowl hosted the opening tournament of the Madison Area Scratch Tour this Sunday on the USBC Blue pattern. Sixty four bowlers competed with Greg Thomas outlasting the field to win his 2nd MAST title. Thomas defeated Chris Pierson 236 to 209 in the title match to earn $632 while Pierson received $348 for second place.

2010-2011 MAST Schedule Announced
The Madison Area Scratch Tour presents the 2010-2011 schedule. The tour is entering its 23rd season of competition.
This year, the tour will feature a number of tournaments conducted on the new USBC Red, White, and Blue patterns. There will be four events conducted on a USBC Blue pattern and two on a USBC White pattern. Four sites will have standard house patterns that would be considered Red under the color system. Rounding out the stops is the 2010 USBC Nationals pattern at Ten Pin Alley, and the always challenging 'modified' house shot for the Lake Ripley Doubles event.
The Year End Championship will be held over the weekend of April 9 at Dream Lanes.

Heinzelman Nearly Unbeatable in Championship
Congratulations to Jay Heinzelman, this years MAST Badger Pro Shop Year End Tournament Champion. Heinzelman received $1000 and an eagle champion trophy for his win.
In the qualifying round, 39 bowlers competed for 12 match play spots. The cut to match play was +270 after eight games. It took a score of 1831 to be one of the top 4 bowlers out of the cut and to cash. Chris Pounders led the field with a score of 2057. Multiple honor scores were bowled throughout the day. Pounders started out slow with a 191 game followed by back to back 300s. Joey Kick also had a 300 in his third game. An 807 was bowled by Herb Kimpel and an 800 by Rick Thomas.
